Report: SRFC FunFly 1st June 2024
About twenty MACI members turned out for the Shankill Radio Flying Club’s fun fly on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Nestled near Sugar Loaf Mountain in County Wicklow, the club features two grass runways—one running north–south and the other east–west—along with a clubhouse, a secure pits area, and a dedicated generator for pilots’ use.
We enjoyed perfect weather—bright sunshine and a gentle breeze—and saw a diverse lineup of aircraft, from scale, sport, and glider fixed‐wing models to a handful of helicopters (including one scale chopper). After a safety and pilot briefing at 10:30 am, flying kicked off with a mix of electric, glow‑fuel, and petrol‑powered machines.
Although there was no formal competition, everyone enjoyed the event—complete with complimentary refreshments—and convenient restroom facilities were available throughout the day.
The SRFC committee extends heartfelt thanks to all our visitors for attending and supporting the club. We had a fantastic day, and feedback indicates everyone else did too. A special shout-out goes to the club members who worked tirelessly to prepare the site for the fun fly. Finally, we’re grateful to MACI for their support—it truly made the event possible.
