The current regulations of the M.A.C.I. mandate that all pilots must possess their A certificate to fly unaccompanied. In alignment with these requirements, the S.R.F.C. has adopted a comprehensive training policy to efficiently guide new members towards A Cert qualification.
Upon enrollment, each new member will receive a training card containing the prescribed A certificate maneuvers. These manoeuvers will be performed during the training period, with the Instructor evaluating the member’s performance and assigning scores at the conclusion of each session. This scoring system ensures a documented record of each member’s progress, enabling effective monitoring.
Scores will be graded on a scale from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). Members consistently achieving scores of 4 or 5 will be required to undergo the A Cert test. Furthermore, the scoring mechanism serves to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, providing valuable insights into each member’s progress.
Each training card allows for the recording of up to 10 sessions. Members are obligated to undertake the A certificate test after completing two training cards, or earlier at the discretion of the training officer. It is imperative that members retain and present their training card at each session, as training will not be conducted without it. Only Instructors listed on the approved roster are authorized to sign the training card at the conclusion of each session.
Training sessions are scheduled as follows:
- Saturdays: 11 am to 1 pm & 3 pm to 5 pm
- Sundays: 3 pm to 5 pm
- Wednesday Evenings (Summer): 5 pm to 7 pm
The Club will endeavour to have sufficient trainers available on these days, however this may not
always be possible and to avoid disappointment prior arrangements should be made with an
approved training Instructor.
All new members presenting themselves at the field for training must have in their possession
and available for inspection the following:
- Current SRFC Membership Card
- Current M.A.C.I. Membership Card (maci.justgo.com)
- Correct frequency as assigned by Club if not using 2.4Ghz/900Mhz systems
